Amy Coney Barrett has been
sky
sworn in as a Supreme Court justice after
news
Republicans overpowered Democratic
opposition 52-48 in the US Senate.
She took the oath in front of the White
House, promising to act "without any fear
or favour for her own beliefs or for other
branches of government.
Donald Trump paid tribute to the judge
and called her swearing in a "momentous
day for America'".
A committed Catholic and mother of
seven, Ms Barrett's confirmation opens
up potential new rulings on abortion, gay
marriage and Obamacare, as the court
now has a solid conservative majority.
