President Emmanuel Macron responded
to a knife attack at a church in the south-
ern French city of Nice which left three
people dead. France's chief anti-terrorism
prosecutor, Jean-François Ricard said the
victims were "targeted for the sole reason
that they were present in the church at
the time". People have left flowers and lit
candles in front of the church in tribute
to the victims. The suspected attacker
is in a critical condition in hospital after
being shot by police following what Mr
Macron described as an "Islamist terrorist
attack". In response, France has deployed
thousands of troops to protect churches
and schools and raised its national
